TASK 3:CONCEPT PRESENTATION

Week 6

We discussed our rewritten script with teacher Kamal again, and he thought it was feasible and gave us new feedback. This week, the teacher said we did a good job.

  • Panel panning (arrows)
  • Change design to more local
  • Malaysian school uniform
  • More variations to the chef
  • Change the waiters hairstyle and body type (different for woman and man)
  • 1 panel (artboard) shows 1 idea, so that its easier to understand
  • Use different camera angles
The logo idea:
  • Show empty pot
  • Slowly turn into the logo

To ensure cultural authenticity, I needed to change the children's costumes into Malaysian school uniforms to more accurately reflect the local environment. For adults, their clothing should look more realistic, more suitable for the environment, and avoid overly Western designs.

In order to refine the character design, I worked with the team to discuss various references and unify the style. This helped me create the final character design that fits the project's style and narrative goals.

Based on feedback from Week 6, we added red arrows to the storyboard to more clearly show the character's actions in each scene.

Week 7

I improved part of the story version and did some color processing to make the picture more rich.

Before we submitted our final proposal, we added some new developments. Our 3d modeling artist Yong Le created the 3d animation.

Feedback

Week 06
  1. Added arrows to indicate paneling
  2. The design is localized and the children wear Malaysian school uniforms
  3. Enrich the chef's image, adjust the waiter's hair and body type (male and female)
  4. Each drawing board conveys a clear idea
  5. Use different camera angles to show the scene
  6. LOGO idea: empty pot gradually turned into logo

Week 07
  1. Optimize transitions and camera movement
  2. Character design improved, more expressive
  3. Identify characters and environments, and refine scene details
  4. Enhance art depth, add shadows and light effects
  5. Refer to Fruit Ninja, Toca Boca, and notice the white background contrast
  6. Use gradients appropriately to make sure your character stands out
  7. Refine your storyboard descriptions to create a solid final portfolio

Reflections

Experience:
Together, the team revised the script and discussed the character design, adjusting the costumes to make them more realistic. For example, the children's characters were changed to Malaysian school uniforms, and the adult costumes were also more realistic, while avoiding excessive Westernization. In addition, I added variation to the chef character, designing a chunky image that was more vivid overall.

Observations
Using different camera angles can enhance visual variety and interest. Each panel in the storyboard expresses a core idea that helps communicate the message more clearly.

Findings:
This assignment made me deeply appreciate the importance of details and teamwork in design, and learn how to continuously optimize design according to feedback to achieve the best effect.
