WEEKLY PROGRESS

Week1

This week, we need to review all the work completed in Project 1 and share it with Ms. Anis.

Week2

Our storyboard has undergone most of the revisions. This time, we don't plan to produce an advertisement. Instead, we have adapted it into a story, which showcases the children's wonderful memories of hot pot.

Week3

Jia Yi and I attempted to do modeling with Blender, but the result wasn't very satisfactory. Most of the team members were proficient in Maya, so we decided to switch to that software for production next week.

Seasoning

This week, Dea Natasha and Yong Li created some 2D storyboard scenes.

Chef cutting meat

Kid jumping from ladle

Week4

This week, Jiayi and I reworked the models and added new ones as well as some textures using Maya.

Hotpot ingredients

Week5

This week, I and Jiayi did some modeling of tableware and also helped to create some 2D parts.

Week6

This week, Jia Yi and I used Maya to create some special effects. Yong Li showed us how to do the effects. This was our first attempt together.

Special effects

Week7

It's our presentation week now. Our 3D models haven't been able to be rendered in time, so our 3D animation isn't finished today. However, the 2D animation has been completed.

FEEDBACK

Week 01

Mr Kamal:
1.Decide how long it is for 2d animation and 3d animation sections.
2.Use excel to show each image, description, duration and who does that part.
3.Can already start animating the scenes with no characters first.
4.Divide task. 2 people do the graphics, 2 people do the animations.
5.Finalise all assets this week.

Week 02

Mr Kamal :
1.2nd version is a bit hard to animate
2.Storyboard looks good
3.Don’t change the storyboard anymore
4.Don’t use frame by frame, it takes too long
5.Add some depth to each scene
6.Proceed with this new storyboard
7.Try with different animation styles

Mr Kannan :
1.Keep the storyline simple
2.Play with motion graphic
3.Do a quick test in one scene
4.The puppetry is too simple at the moment
5.Look for reference

Week 03

Mr Kamal :
1.Fix the perspective
2.Don’t worry about colour, it can be changed later
3.Kitchen can be brown, while dining area becomes blue
4.Divide the tasks more equally. Help each other out

Week 05

Mr Kamal :
1.Character turnaround is nice
2.Proceed to animation
3.For walk cycle, do three steps then loop it
4.Legs cannot just be swinging back and forth. Need to bend the knee
5.2 steps per sec
6.Divide the animation tasks among the three animators in your group
7.Make sure to finish it by 17/18th March

Week 06

Mr Kamal :
1.Make sure to finish the animation by next Tuesday the latest to prepare for the presentation on Thursday.
2.Choose suitable songs and sound effects.
3.Need to do slight changes to some vectors, but most of them are fine.
4.Adjust the animation graph.
5.The 3D effect is too slow.

Week 07

Mr Kamal :
1.Cut the scene right after the walk cycle ends, or else it looks like the movement is incomplete.
2.Can add more camera movements, like in the scene where they walk into the restaurant.
3.Draw some bubbles in the soup, and smoke coming out of the pot.
4.Do some chewing movement in the eating scene.
5.Remove the shadow from the name font, it makes the logo look old.
6.The 3d animation could be a bit faster and have more camera movements.
7.Make sure to finish the 3d rendering by 29th.

REFLECTION

It has been a year since my last involvement in this project. As I have kept all the original files and related documents required for the project, I was able to quickly retrieve the progress and smoothly return to the right track this time. Fortunately, my team members also made similar preparations. Together, we sorted out and summarized all the completed works into a complete PDF file, providing clear references for the subsequent production.

Currently, we are mainly responsible for creating the resources needed for the project, including 2D character turn design, facial expression drawing, scene backgrounds, and 3D models, etc. Jia Yi and I are in charge of the 3D part this semester. After completing these materials, I will hand over the files to the team members so that they can continue with the animation production.

According to the plan, we will officially enter the animation production stage next week. I have sorted out all the necessary files and uploaded them to the group sharing platform, making it convenient for other members to carry out subsequent work. During the cooperation process, Jia Yi and I learned many new things while creating the 3D animation. Members helped each other and everyone worked very hard.

When I saw the final product, I felt a great sense of achievement. Although we encountered some problems during the process, the overall progress was smooth. Fortunately, we still had time to optimize and refine the work before the deadline of March 29th and submit the final result.
